Hello! Hej hej!
After having studied abroad during my junior year at Grand Valley State University in Copenhagen, Denmark, followed by a year finishing up my undergraduate Biomedical Science degree, I decided that I just couldn’t stay away from the “happiest people on earth”. SO…I applied for, was offered, and accepted (duh!) a job at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad as a Science and Health Programs Assistant. There, I will be helping coordinate their Medical Practice and Policy and Biomedicine academic programs – amongst other things of which I will learn once I commence working. While it is comforting to be able to return to a country I fell in love with – to recognize the ridiculously tongue-twisting and consonant-heavy Danish words, rekindle friendships, and bicycle or train here-there-and-everywhere – I will not be living as a mere student, but a true employee of a Danish-American organization. This will entail getting an intern visa, paying taxes, opening a bank account, finding a place to live, and….not having to worry about exams (maybe just maybe i’ll miss it a little bit)!
With this blog I hope to show those dedicated enough to read it, the one-of-a-kind qualities of Denmark, and what it’s like learning to live like a true Dane for an entire year! It’s going to be a challenge, but will include experiences that I will relish for the rest of my life. I can’t wait to see what each day brings!
